Dr. Kendra Bell, Ph.D. is Peoria Unified School District’s new Chief Academic Support Officer.

She will begin her new role with the district July 1.

The one-year contract includes  a salary of $111,750 for Ms. Bell.

Ms. Bell said as she moves into her new position she will begin building relationships and create an assessment plan, specifically using data to guide instruction.

“I am an achiever, a maximizer and an arranger. That is probably why I love school improvement,” she said. “Accepting that our kids do well isn’t good enough for me, so I’m very interested in those signature programs that can take a school to the next level.”

In her new role, Ms. Bell will oversee Exceptional Student Services which includes Curriculum & Instruction, Arts Education, Professional Development, Special Education, Research and Instructional Technology Services.

She was previously employed by the Glendale Elementary School District where she has served as a coach to principals for the past three years. Prior to that, Ms. Bell has served as the Director of Elementary Leadership, an Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services, Executive Director of School Improvement, Director of Assessment and Accountability and Principal within the Tucson Unified School District and North Kansas City Schools.

Chief Academic Support Officer is a new position created earlier this year. In January, the governing board approved a new organization chart splitting the Deputy Superintendent position into two positions —  Chief Instructional Officer and Chief Academic Support Officer. Steve Savoy was promoted from K-12 Academic Services to Chief Instructional Officer.

Ms. Bell holds a superintendent’s certificate through the state of Arizona. She earned a Doctorate in Urban Leadership and Policy Studies and Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Missouri, Kansas City and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She also received an Honorary Distinction of Dissertation award and was a teacher of the year recipient through the Kansas City Chief’s organization.

PUSD is the fourth largest district in the state and serves more than 36,000 students in 34 elementary schools, seven high schools and non-traditional high school.
