Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly may be out of the running to be Vice President Kamala Harris's running mate, according to a report in USA Today.
The newspaper, quoting sources, say the choice ultimately for the Democratic ticket will come down to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro or Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
Kelly posted on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday that "Now, my mission is serving Arizonans," which some thought meant he was out of the running.
After removing the message, Kelly's staff said those viewing it misinterpreted its meaning.
Both Kelly and Shapiro come from swing states, though Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral votes, is considered a must win for Harris to capture the White House while Arizona is not.
While Minnesota appears to be trending for Harris, Walz has become a popular choice among progressives, according to published reports.
