When the Kellis girls basketball team reconvened in May for its summer tournaments, the Cougars came back with less height but even more motivation.
The young team emerged as a 5A Conference title contender last season, only to lose in the final seconds of the quarterfinals 56-55 to region rival Sunrise Mountain, a team the Cougars swept. Then 6-2 center Nevaeh Limbacher transferred to powerhouse Phoenix Pinnacle for her junior year.
Kellis' other six leading scorers came back, and four of them are guards. Then two more talented guards came in.
