Kathryn Anne Roady

Kathryn Anne Roady (you knew her as Kathy) lost her hard fight battle with cancer on March 28, 2017. Her love for life continues to shine through her husband, children, and grandchildren.Kathy had a spirit that will not be forgotten. There was nothing she loved more than her family, although golf was a very close second. She loved the game and played to win, but, even more than that, she loved the friendships she made on the course. Kathy was born in Greeley, Colorado to Harold and Gladys (Coonradt) Jones on September 26, 1945. The third of the three Jones girls, Kathy grew up in Greeley, attending Greeley schools and graduating from Greeley High School. After college, Kathy returned to the area with her family, raising her children in the area and working at the family's sporting goods store, The Jones Co. as a women's sportswear buyer. She also opened and ran The Jones Girl. Kathy spent a great deal of these years volunteering to make her children's lives better. She spent many hours organizing, growing, and cheering for the Eaton swimming programs (both the swim club and later Eaton High School swimming) before the family moved into Greeley, where she continued to volunteer with and cheer for the Greeley Swim Club and the Greeley West Spartans swimmers. Her whistle was well known on the decks of pools all over the state of Colorado (and probably Wyoming and Nebraska as well!). It was during these years that Kathy fell in love with golf. Playing in leagues at the Eaton Country Club, Kathy took on golf the way she took on life: fully and with her whole heart. A volunteer on the board at Eaton for many years, Kathy helped the club grow as it approached and entered the 21st century. Her love of golf also introduced her to the love of her life, Ken Roady. Set up to play in a couple's tournament by mutual friends, the couple found they had a lot in common and decided to take their teamwork off the greens. Kathy and Ken married in 1997, living happily in Littleton, Colorado until their move to Sun City West. While living in Littleton, Kathy played golf where ever and whenever she could. Using Cherry Hills as her home course, Kathy played many great courses throughout Colorado. Wishing to share her love of the game, Kathy also volunteered with the Colorado Women's Golf Association, serving as their president in 1997 and 1998.Much to her irritation, neither of Kathy's children took on golf with her enthusiasm. Despite their obvious lack of taste, she found a way to pass on her enthusiasm for the game with younger generations, working with Colorado Junior Golf and the Evans Scholars to pass on her passion for the sport. In 2001, Kathy and Ken moved to Sun City West, substituting hot summers for snowy Colorado winters in an effort to extend their golf season. And Kathy did just that, playing golf with intensity and zeal, making Grandview Golf Course her home. Always the competitor, Kathy won both the Grandview club championship and the Sun City West Classic twice. The friends she made on the courses became her extended family, and the many laughs and pitchers she shared with them filled her years in Sun City West with joy. Besides golf, Kathy also had a passion for The Denver Broncos, showing her love for the team by yelling at the television often in the fall. She sported blue and orange regularly from August to December, and longer if they made the playoffs. She also loved playing video poker, bowling, and card games with her friends. Kathy is survived by her loving husband Ken, her son Kenneth Charles (K.C.) Carlson of Parker, Colorado, her daughter Kyle Anne (Carlson) Uniss (husband George 'Ted' Uniss) of Delaware, Ohio, her two grandchildren, Elizabeth 'Libby' Anne Uniss and Kathryn 'Katy' Patricia Uniss, also of Delaware, her stepdaughter, Andrea Roady, her sister Patricia Anne (Jones) Best (husband David Best) of Greeley, and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her best friend, Sally Lou Schultz, with whom she shared many laughs and memories. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barbara (Jones) Peercy. Memorial services will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado or the Junior Golf Association of Arizona.
