Kasten: Many candidates don’t seem worried about Arizona

After watching unending multitudes of TV commercials for the upcoming candidate nominating process we like to call the primary elections, I am convinced.

Convinced not of any of the candidates directly, but of their message.

Kasten: Many candidates don’t seem worried about Arizona

Posted

After watching unending multitudes of TV commercials for the upcoming candidate nominating process we like to call the primary elections, I am convinced.

Convinced not of any of the candidates directly, but of their message.

It is a multiple part message. One part is that they are all running against President Biden rather than their challengers. Not sure how they think their potential state-level offices or their possible role in the federal legislature makes them an opponent of the president, but because they continue to repeat everything they are going to do to fix President Biden’s failings, they must feel he is the opponent.

Another part is that they all believe the state of Arizona has an internationally recognized border with Mexico. They believe they can build walls, order troops, spend tax dollars and take other similar steps towards maintaining “our border.”

We all know that the United States of America, a country, has a border with Mexico and that part of that border is geographically located in the state of Arizona. The responsibility for that border is federal, not state. There is one action they could take.

Help the federal government identify and implement ways to improve how the border is maintained through a 21st century immigration system that focuses on the needs of the USA and the human dignity of potential immigrants.

The last part of the message that these candidates want us to believe is that the current economic situation — speak high rates of inflation — is due only to steps taken by current administration and that there is absolutely no local component to the problem.

They simply ignore that fact the nation-wide level of inflation is at 9.1% higher than a year ago, while the statewide level is at 12.3% (Daily Independent, July 15, 2022).

A quick search shows that latest official comment on inflation from the current state administration is that of assigning the blame to the feds.

So, there’s nothing that was done or that can be done to bring the Arizona level down the national level by our state or local officials? I truly don’t believe their message is on-point to help the people of Arizona. Thank you for reading.
