From Scottsdale to Phoenix, Black families stressed the importance of teaching their children about their cultural history while partaking in Juneteenth jubilees scheduled throughout the Valley.
Darrelle Dupre, of Chandler, and Tiana Lyons, of Mesa, attended Tempe’s 10th annual Juneteenth celebration before taking their children to another event on Saturday, June 17, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, “so they can learn about their culture.”
Lyons, who works in Scottsdale, and Dupre stated the need to take the initiative to educate their children on their history by supporting Juneteenth events.
