Juneteenth designated official Scottsdale holiday

‘It’s the change we’ve wanted to see’

June 19, commonly known as Juneteenth, has been deemed an official holiday for the city of Scottsdale — a decision community members are excited about.

Buried within an April 5 City Council meeting agenda was a resolution filed under a nondescript “Human Resources Management Code Amendment” title — the amendment is to add a new holiday for city employees.

With no mention of the holiday that celebrates the end of slavery at the April 5 meeting, Scottsdale City Council approved the resolution as part of its consent agenda.
