SUN CITY WEST - Julia Theresa Marino, 82, of Magnolia, Massachusetts and Sun City West, Arizona, passed away on November 10, 2013, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her beloved husband of 14 years, Charles Fields, was by her side. Julia was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on January 6, 1931 to Julia (Donovan) Dawson and James Dawson and was the younger sister of Mary (Dawson) Trazi. Mischievous and fun-loving throughout her life, Julia delighted in surprising people with unexpected jokes and adventures. As a Navy wife she traveled the world and made each new home special. A self-made woman who mastered the arts of cooking, baking, entertaining, and arranging flowers, she went on to study at the Montserrat College of Art to begin her career in the fine arts. Julia originally began as an oil painter, but found that she enjoyed sculpting marble and despite her petite and elegant appearance she was well acquainted with the business end of a chisel. She was a long-time member of the Rockport Art Association, North Shore Art Association, and the New England Sculptors Association (NESA) and won numerous awards for her sculptures. Most recently, Julia loved to travel and explore the Southwest with her husband, Charles. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Charles L. Fields; her daughter, Lisa Marino, her son-in-law, Wilson Linares and her two granddaughters, Sofia and Lena, all of Newton. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Trazi, of Stoneham and her nephew, Tony Trazi, and his wife, Caryn Trazi, both of Wakefield, as well as in-laws from the Fields family and the Marino and Doolan families. Julia will also be missed by many dear friends and neighbors in Cape Ann, Massachusetts and Sun City West, Arizona. Julia was predeceased by her first husband, Lcdr. Leonard J. Marino (U.S.N. Ret.), who died in 1996. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia's memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, Massachusetts 01923. Details about a memorial will be forthcoming.
