Education funding ruling a positive for Deer Valley Unified, officials say

Maricopa County Superior Court rules current public school funding is unconstitutional

Deer Valley Unified School District is one of dozens in the state that could benefit from a ruling this week that said Arizona legislative leaders have shorted districts in funding for schools, maintenance and more.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Dewain Fox on Wednesday in his 114-page decision said many schools lack resources for basic needs including adequate equipment to keep buildings in repair and are even unsafe due to cracks and other deficiencies.

Fox said the state has failed to provide funds for legally required improvements, including keeping students safe from shooters invading schools.
