Judge tosses Peoria Unified board member’s lawsuit of First Amendment violations

Rooks says she will appeal and continue reciting Bible passages at public board meetings

Only days after a federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by governing board President Heather Rooks against the Peoria Unified School District, she and her legal representation said they will appeal the ruling and Rooks will continue to recite Biblical scripture at meetings.

“We appreciate the judge’s swift resolution of this matter, which allows us to move forward and remain focused on providing a high-quality education for all students,” the statement read.
