Judge sentences East Valley man to life in prison for 2022 murder

A 35-year-old Chandler man who shot and killed his uncle on Easter Sunday in 2022 and seriously injured two others has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison.

Francisco Juan Acevedo was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan M. Brnovich on April 17, four years to the day after he was at a family gathering on the Gila River Indian Community where he killed one of his uncles, shot and seriously wounded another uncle and shot and seriously injured a third victim, according to a release from the Arizona district of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Acevedo was found guilty in October of eight charges: one count of first-degree premeditated murder, one count of assault with intent to commit murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
