PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Superior Court judge says there’s nothing wrong with asking voters to approve a measure aimed at transgender athletes that, if approved, also would keep anyone in a school — sports participant or not — from using a bathroom or locker room that does not match the sex the person was assigned at birth.
At a hearing Thursday, Judge Greg Como said it could be considered a stretch to tie the two issues together in a single measure that Republican lawmakers want voters to approve in November.
But Como said there is enough of a connection between the two provisions that it can fit into constitutional requirements that all ballot measures deal with just a single subject.
