Judge denies petition to return animals to Chandler woman

A municipal court judge ruled Wednesday that a woman cannot bring home 13 animals after she was charged last month with 55 counts of animal abuse.

After a three-plus-hour Chandler Municipal Court hearing, Sydney McKinley, 48, of the 1700 block of East Kesler Lane, was denied in her petition to have 13 dogs returned to her after the Arizona Humane Society and Chandler Police seized 55 animals Sept. 22 from her home.

McKinley began the hearing by telling the judge she wasn’t seeking to take home 47 dogs listed on her petition, which she says were part of her shelter nonprofit for special-needs dogs. She told the judge she was seeking only to have 13 “personal family dogs” returned.
