Joseph S. Weglarz Jr., 89, died on July 23, 2017. He was born April 2, 1928 in Melvindale, MI to Joseph S. and Carrie (Bullard) Weglarz. He grew up in Melvindale along with his two brothers Larry and Richard. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1945 where he played football and made lifelong friendships. After graduation he enlisted in the US army and served in the Korean War. He was very proud of his military service and after His Honerable Discharge in 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Arlene Bradford and they were together for over 60 years until her death in 2014. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Flint, MI; when Joe was transferred to the General Motors Ternstedt plant which would be his workplace until his retirement in 1977. In 1966 they moved to Flushing, MI and built their dream home there. Joe enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling. Joe and Arlene retired in 1977. They bought a home in Sun City and became snowbirds between Cedarville, MI and Sun City for many years. Their children and grandchildren enjoyed visiting their summer place on Lake Michigan and had many happy times.In recent years Joe and Arlene made their summer home in Lakeside, OR so they could be near their daughter Deb; grandchildren and great grandchildren. There, Joe and Arlene enjoyed family and fishing time on the lake. He was especially proud to have tutored his granddaughter Beka in the finer points of golf and was able to travel to see her represent her high school at the state level in Oregon. Joe is survived by his two children Deb of Coos Bay, OR and Joe III of Surprise, AZ; two grandchildren Beka and Jessie from Oregon, three great grandchildren Justin, Jordan and Jaxson also in Oregon, he is survived by brother Richard and his wife Rita and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City, AZ, with a reception to follow at the church hall. Internment of his ashes will be on Monday, Oct. 9th at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with full military honors. His family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Simona Duican and her staff at Parkside Assisted Living for their loving care of Joe in his final days.We will always remember Joe as the loving patriarch of our family who took care of us from children to great grandchildren and nurtured us along the way.
