Joseph M. Paluch, 83, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away peacefully on June 24th, 2026. A man of courage, discipline, and an undaunted spirit, Joe lived a life defined by service. From the streets of Chicago to the softball fields where he became a national champion, he carried himself with honor in all he did.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Joe grew into a man shaped by adversity and resilience. He proudly served four years as a Navy SEAL, a role that demanded strength, precision, and unwavering resolve. Following his military service, he continued protecting others as a Chicago Police Officer, serving the city for more than 25 years in Gang Intelligence and the K-9 Unit with his most beloved partners Buddy and Bandit.
Joe married Dolores on August 23rd, 1969, and they shared nearly 57 years together. Joe was fiercely protective of those he loved, especially his girls and grandchildren. He balanced that strength with an incredible sense of humor that brought joy and laughter with his incredible stories.
Sports lived deep in Joe’s heart. Golf and senior softball gave him joy, pride, and the thrill of three national championships. But his greatest happiness came from sharing that love as a proud Papa with his grandchildren - coaching them, playing beside them, and holding close the moments they created together.
Joe is survived by his wife, Dolores Paluch; his daughters Sherri Richmond (Russ Richmond) and Jennifer Surface (Travis Surface); cherished grandchildren Jake Richmond, Zach Surface, and Adyson Surface; niece Devri Quintana, nephew Michael Paluch Jr., and many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lojowsky, and his brothers, Michael F. Paluch Sr. (Debra Paluch) and Frank Paluch.
His legacy of honor, loyalty, laughter, and grit will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to know him.
A private service with full Military Honors will be held on August 14, 2026, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, where Joe’s life of service will be recognized with the dignity he earned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley at www.hov.org.
