SUN CITY WEST - John Zukowski, age 85, of Sun City West, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011. John was born in Detroit, Mich., where he attended Catholic and public schools. He received the following degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Master of Science and Doctor of Education (emphasizing Science Education). John's professional career spanned over 37 years which included Supervisor of Middle School Science, in the Detroit Public Schools. During this period he additionally headed the administration of the federal program known as the National Defense Education Act (NDEA). After retiring to Arizona, he took an interest in woodworking at the SCW Woodworking Club. Some of his projects included furniture for family members, turned bowls and most recently, wooden pens. John was also a member of the Polish American Club of Sun City West. John is survived by wife, Henrietta; daughters, Andrea (Gregory) Cambridge of Orion, Mich., and Claudia (David) Mattox of Vienna, Va.; his grandchildren, Brandon and Timothy Cambridge and Laura Mattox; and a sister, Mary Ann Kosek of Eastpointe, Mich. John will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful husband for over 60 years and a loving father. A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West. Interment will be in Michigan. The family respectfully requests that memorials be placed in John's name with Hospice of the Valley, 14066 W. Waddell Road, Surprise, AZ 85379; or your favorite charity.
