John W. Geyer, died on October 4, 2017. The son of the late John and Margaret Geyer, he was born March 24, 1925 in Iowa where he attended the public schools and his first year of college at the State University of Iowa.After three years of service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, he returned to Purdue University where he received his B.S. Degree on February 1, 1948. He married Mary Louise Klahn on May 3, 1953. He was a High School teacher in Iowa and in Japan for four years before he began his thirty-eight year career with the General Motors Corporation. He served in various management positions with G.M. in Des Moines, Denver, Kansas City, Wichita, and Detroit. Upon retirement in 1990, he and his wife Mary, a retired Registered Nurse, relocated to Sun City West.He was active in his Presbyterian churches and served as a ruling elder in Wichita, KS and Birmingham, MI. He was a member of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, AZ. Mr. Geyer enjoyed being an active Mason, serving in his Lodges in Iowa, where he was a 70 year member, and in the former Meridian Lodge in Sun City West as well as the Fun City Lodge #72 F & A.M. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine in Wichita where he was a unit head, and has been a member of the El Zaribah Shrine in Phoenix since moving to the Valley. He was very active in High Twelve Clubs for the past 25 years and served as State President of the Arizona Association of High Twelve Clubs in 1997-1998 and was honored twice as Arizona State High Twelvian of the Year. He served on committees in the International organization for 7 years and chaired the International Youth Activities committee for two years. He also served as State Secretary in 2001-2003. He has been active in the Royal Order of Jesters and served as Chairman of the Sun Cities Billikin Club in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his wife Mary, a son John (Theresa) of Willcox, AZ and a daughter, Martha Geyer and James Fuerster of Canton, MI, and one brother, Dr. Keith Geyer (Sue) of Alta, IA. Memorial services will be held at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 16, 2017 with inurnment in the columbarium at his church at a later date.
