Jobs of the future: TSMC Phoenix launches apprenticeship program

Nonprofits, community colleges launch programs to train local workers for semiconductor factory jobs

When Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. announced plans to bring in workers from Taiwan to staff positions at its north Phoenix factory under construction, it drew criticism from local workers’ unions.

Last week, TSMC announced a semiconductor apprenticeship program to bolster the local pipeline of factory workers.

“I hope today will be a key date in how we invested in making sure that Arizonans get the jobs of the future in this incredible and important industry,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said during an event last week at Phoenix City Hall.
