Joan Y. Barry-Koemptgen

Joan was born in Tokyo, Japan, March 24, 1929, and joined the Lord July 10th, 2023.
She graduated from Yamawaki Fashion School of Art in 1956 where she studied English, Art, and Fashion Design.
She married Joseph Barry and in that same year completed four years of private lessons in Sumi painting. Throughout her years, Joan has had the opportunity to exhibit her work. In 1974, Joan painted a mural in the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She also taught at Mohave Community College in Lake Havasu, AZ, from 1974 through 1981.
Joan pursued her passion for art her entire life. She studied many art medias including Japanese doll making, ceramics, silver smithing, and enameling. She is a Patron of West Vally Art Museum and belongs to Catholic Daughters, AAUW, and Questors.
Joan is preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Barry; her son, Thomas Barry, and her second husband, George Koemptgen.
She is survived by three loving brothers, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she just visited in Japan.
A Rosary service will be held on Monday, July 17th, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 9728 W. Palmeras Dr., Sun City, AZ 85373, with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. to follow.
