SUN CITY - Jess Bootman died peacefully at his home in Sun City on Feb. 19, 2017 surrounded by his beloved family.Born in St. Jo, Mo. in 1926 to Jesse Lyle, Sr. & Esther Bootman.Jess enlisted in the Navy in June 1943 at just 17 years old, leaving high school in 11th grade, earning his diploma in the service. He was an Electrician's Mate 3rd class and served on the USS LST-475 and the USS Lloyd E. Agree destroyer escort.Jess entered college after leaving the military. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 36 years, retiring as Trainmaster in 1986 in Glendale.He was President of the International Comanche Society 1995-1996, a member of the Elks, American Legion and lifetime member of DESA.He is preceded in death by his parents; and Brother, Winfred Bootman of Bakersfield, Calif.He is survived by his loving wife, Frances of 68 years; sons, Lyle, Rick; & daughterm Rebecca Myers; daughter-in-law, Helen Bootman; and son-in-law, David Myers; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Memorial service to be held at 9:00 am March 14 at Menke Funeral Home 12420 N. 103rd Ave, Sun City. Reception immediately following in Menke reception room. Burial will be at 1:00 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
