Jerry William Watts, 76Sun City West resident Jerry William Watts passed away Sept. 28, 2007, at his residence.Mr. Watts was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Portland, Ore., to Paul and Thora Watts.He attended Louisiana State University in the College of Engineering, Agricultural and Mechanical, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of California at Irvine and a doctorate in philosophy control theory.Mr. Watts was a professor of weapons and systems engineer at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.He enjoyed sail boat racing at Chesapeak Bay Naval Academy and he golfed with single digits.He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Grant Watts. He is survived by his wife, Jean F. Watts; a daughter, Gloria McEwan; a son, Kim Watts; a brother, Larry Watts; and grandchildren Nathan and Dustin.A celebration of life service was conducted Oct. 6, 2007, at the Palm Funeral Home in Sun City.Memorial contributions can be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, P.O. Goodwin passed away peacefully in his sleep 10:45 p.m. Sept. 20, 2007, after a battle with prostate cancer.As a direct descendent of a Mayflower passenger, Roger was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Medina, New York, and was raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, where he met his high school sweetheart. Roger and Catherine were married in 1943 and enjoyed 63 wonderful years together.Roger graduated from the University of Michigan in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and became a registered architect in 1959. After college he worked for the United States Government building airports in the U.S. and Venezuela. In 1957 he began his private practice in Westwood, New Jersey.He worked with many well-known clients and major contractors, including the Bell Telephone Company and the New York Port Authority. He was consulting engineer for the insurance company on the World Trade Center. He had a successful 20-year private practice before he was appointed a United Nations engineering advisor in 1978 to the Saudi Arabian government on their airport projects.After semi-retiring in 1987, he and his wife moved to Lake Havasu City where he was a construction manager for the Hunt Construction Company, working on the new Lake Havasu City hospital. He was an active pilot in the Civil Air Patrol and served as a court-appointed construction mediator.He and his wife traveled extensively around the world, including to Europe, Japan, South America, Egypt and on a camera safari in Kenya.Roger always said he had a wonderful life with his wife, who passed away in August 2006.He is survived by four children, including daughters Carol Clare of Denver, and sons Harry Goodwin of Phoenix, Mark Goodwin of Wichita, Kan., and Phillip Goodwin of Hamden, Conn.; nine grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Suite 128, Peoria, AZ 85345.A private service will be conducted to celebrate his life.
