Christian Wilch, 60, was killed Friday morning in a crash when his Jeep hit a light pole after colliding with a car, Phoenix police said.

The collision occurred about 6:20 a.m. Nov. 10 near 27th Avenue and Deer Valley Road where officers and fire department personnel found Wilch dead inside the Jeep.

Police said they learned Wilch was making a left turn from Deer Valley Road into a private drive when he struck a westbound vehicle. The woman driving the car stayed at the scene and did not show any signs of intoxication, police said.

She received serious non-life-threatening injuries from the collision and was taken to a hospital for follow-up care, according to authorities.

Detectives took over the investigation, which is ongoing.
