PEORIA - Jean Harvey Allsup, 87, passed away peacefully Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 25, 2010, in Peoria. Jean was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Pendleton, Ore., to James and Clara (Straughan) Harvey. Pastor Kelly Tshibaka, her granddaughter, will officiate graveside services to be held at the family plot in Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, Ore., later next spring, 2011. Jean graduated from Pendleton High School in 1941. She met her husband of 64 years, Dr. Edward L. Allsup, at a USO dance during WWII. Upon his return from military service, they were married Nov. 3, 1945. She earned a BA degree in Business from Oregon State University and later a teaching degree from California State University, Northridge. Jean lived in Newhall, California for 33 years and taught elementary education in the Los Angeles School District for 22 years. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 1989. Mrs. Allsup was an active member of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a sorority sister of Alpha Delta Pi and a member of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West where she was dedicated to her Stephen Ministry. During her retirement, Mrs. Allsup and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the 50 US states, Canada and Mexico in their motorhome, exploring Europe together, and taking cruises to the Orient and Panama Canal. They had a busy, active, happy lifestyle in which they worked hard, played hard and enjoyed it all. Jean loved to learn new things, had numerous hobbies, and loved crossword puzzles, arts & crafts and playing golf. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Eldon, and her husband. She is survived by her sister, Mary Colee; daughters and son-in-laws, Sharon and Jim Drake, and Michele and Bill Hartline; granddaughters and husbands, Kelly and Niki Tshibaka, and Lindsay and Joshua Collier; granddaughter, Jenna Drake; grandson, Ron Drake; and great-grandchildren, Denali, Josiah and Joseph Tshibaka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Veteran causes or the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church's Stephen Ministry.
