MIM is hosting Experience Polynesia Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 17 and 18, celebrating the rich history of the cultures that make up the island region.
During both days, guests can experience interactive workshops such as learning the basics of Māori poi or the ukulele, as well as see masterful performances like Hawaiian slack-key guitar by four-time Grammy winner George Kahumoku Jr. and Tahitian drumming by Alo ole Pasefika.
Guests can also see educational presentations, including curator talks and lectures on Hawaiian musical instruments. It’s an immersive cultural experience included with general museum admission — perfect for families, music lovers, and anyone curious about the region’s cultural resonance.

Leading into the Signature Event weekend, enjoy a relaxed, Polynesian-inspired dinner in MIM’s Main Courtyard on Friday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m. Savor a variety of curated food stations, featuring island cuisine-inspired dishes and tiki-style cocktails.
Additionally, guests can raise their voices and celebrate diverse singing traditions during a World Choir Workshop on Thursday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m., where they will gather to learn and sing a traditional Gospel song and explore its origins, followed by a guided visit to our Geographic Galleries to journey into the music's heritage.
The next MIM Talk covers New Year’s Music from around the world. Join us on Tuesday, January 20 from 1:30p.m.-3:30p.m. to learn about how different cultures celebrate new beginnings.
