Jim Landon, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, after a courageous and brief battle with melanoma. He was 88 years old.
Jim’s lifelong dedication to business and marketing began at the University of Florida, where he earned both his BBA and Masters in Marketing, graduating in December 1960. His distinguished career spanned several decades and notable organizations. He began at WJXT TV (now WSB TV) as a Research Director from January 1961 to December 1967. He then joined Cox Broadcasting Corp. as Vice President from January 1967 to December 1978, followed by a role as Vice President of Marketing at Combined Communications from January 1978 to December 1980. Jim then brought his expertise to Swensen’s Ice Cream as Vice President - Marketing from January 1980 to December 1982. Later, he partnered with NOLL & ASSOCIATES as Principal, where he continued his impactful work as a marketing consultant.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a man of diverse passions. An avid photographer and videographer, he captured countless memories. He found joy in drawing and sketching, delved into US History, and explored new places through travel. A devoted sports fan, he passionately followed his beloved Florida Gators and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gaynor Landon, and their cherished daughter, Jessica Landon. He is survived by his loving children: Kim Landon Boyd and her husband Stephen, Brad Landon and his wife Veronika, Curt Landon and his wife Katie, and Chris Landon. Jim was previously married to Holly Boyett (née Hallenbeck), with whom he shared his daughter, Kim and son, Brad. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Kathryn Boyd Crabtree, Kelly Boyd Spring, Sarah Landon, Alyssa Landon, Ben Landon, Rose Landon, Sienna Landon, Chloe Shawl, and his great-grandchildren: Boyd Crabtree, James Crabtree, and Campbell Spring, who brought immense joy to his later years. The family would like to honor the selfless, loving way Jim cared for his wife Gaynor during her many years suffering from ALS, a testament to his profound devotion.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Monday, July 28, at 10 AM at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home, located at 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85204. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jim’s name be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation (melanoma.org/about-us) or the ALS Association (als.org/donate). These organizations were close to Jim’s heart, reflecting his courageous fight and his unwavering devotion to his late wife.
