Goodyear dedicates Station 181, its newest fire station built to protect firefighters’ health

Goodyear Fire Engineer Austin Peck may be gone, but he’s not forgotten, and his presence loomed large May 13 when the city dedicated its newest fire station.

Several people who spoke during the ceremony emceed by Capt. Manny Cordova referred to the 35-year-old fallen firefighter, who lost his battle with work-related cancer in August 2019. Because of COVID-19 safety concerns, attendance was limited and the event was live-streamed on the city’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Dubbed “Austin’s House” in a May 6 social media post by Capt. Tony M. Legamaro the day he finished his first shift there, Station 181 looks like many others at first glance.
