Much like the school itself, Ironwood High’s wrestling program was built brick by brick, though getting the wrestling program operating at a high level took decades.
So it’s only fitting that one of the Glendale school’s original students and wrestlers was there to lead the placement of the capstone in February. Coach Sean Flanigan led the Eagles to their first team wrestling title Feb. 18, and is was not easy.
For most of three days at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Ironwood trailed shiny, young school Canyon View in the race for the Division II title, and as the weight class finals unfolded, the Eagles had only one narrow path to victory.
