Ione M. Cornwall 96Ione M. Cornwall 96, formerly of Sun City, died Dec. 26, 2006 in Keizer, Ore. She and her husband, Doug, moved to Sun City in 1976. After her husband's death, Mrs. Cornwall sold her home and moved to Wooddale Village Retirement Community. In 2005, Ione determined that she would enjoy spending time in Oregon with her daughter, Cathy, son-in-law David, and her grandchildren. Ever striving for independence, she arranged to purchase a fifth-wheel trailer unit. Through their help, the trailer was set up in the back yard of Cathy and David, where Ione enjoyed spending her time knowing family was only a few steps away. In November she traveled to the Oregon coast with another daughter, Mary Ellen, son-in-law Jerry, and granddaughters. Unfortunately, at the end of their week together, Ione slipped and fell, breaking two ribs. It didn't seem too serious until it was discovered the broken ribs had punctured some blood vessels and her lungs were filling with blood. Surgery was out of the question because of her age, so the hospital released her and she returned home. She remained there and all four daughters - Corinne, Judy, Cathy and Mary Ellen - and their husbands were able to arrive in Oregon to be with her. The day after Christmas she took her last breath and slipped peacefully from this Earth-life.
