OPINION — Throughout history, women have played a significant role in gaining information from their enemies as well their families and friends by simply being considered insignificant by their male counterparts.
In years past, most people thought that only men worked in the Central Intelligence Agency. In recent years, Hollywood has sometimes featured female spies, often depicting as slim, usually blond and always brilliant. However, if one digs a little deeper, one will discover that there is quite a hidden history of strong and capable women being involved and participating in American espionage.
In fact, women have been vital to the CIA from its very beginning, though at first they worked as clerks and secretaries while males dominated the more significant posts and assignments.
