Investigation closed on fatal car accident in Paradise Valley

DPS finds no improper action of drivers

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has concluded its investigation and final report of the Jan. 7 fatal pedestrian car accident that took the lives of former police chief John Wintersteen of Paradise Valley and Amazon executive Nooraly Lalji of Phoenix.

Almost four months ago, the two men were hit and killed by two cars while attempting to help Wintersteen’s injured dog in the road on Lincoln Drive between 46th and 48th streets. After Lalji’s vehicle struck the dog, a black Lexus struck both men and then a white Nissan struck Lalji again. Their death was later declared at the hospital, and the dog also died.

DPS found no improper action of the Lexus driver Daniel Geddes and Nissan driver Xavier Sanchez.
