A deadly collision late Friday night in West Phoenix killed one man and sent another to a hospital with critical injuries, Phoenix police said Sunday.

Phoenix detectives are investigating the crash involving three vehicles that occurred about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 13 near 2500 West Indian School Road and Interstate 17.

Preliminary information suggests Daniel Jacobs, 30, was driving an Infiniti G37 sedan eastbound on Indian School Road when he failed to stop for a red light at the southbound access road and collided with a Toyota Tacoma traveling south on the access road, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The driver of the Toyota had a green light, police said.

The Infiniti left the roadway and crashed through a chain-link fence, dropping about 30 feet onto southbound I-17 where it was hit by a GMC Sierra truck heading south on I-17.

Jacobs’ car came to rest on I-17 against a median barrier. He was extricated from the Infiniti and taken to a hospital where he died a day later, police said.

The 29-year-old man driving the Tacoma also was extricated from his vehicle, and police said he remains in critical condition at a hospital.

Authorities are continuing to investigate.
