Valley school districts have received millions of dollars in federal coronavirus relief funds, with potentially tens of millions more coming that will be need to be spent in the next two years.
That money, so far, has been aimed at a variety of expenses local districts have incurred as a result of the pandemic. But broad guidelines allow the funds to cover anything that may have been impacted by the pandemic, from technology to revamped air filtration systems to summer school programs.
Known as the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund, or ESSER, the money has come from the federal government through the Arizona Department of Education in three tranches.
