Increased interest in walkable communities observed across Valley neighborhoods

Housing is being offered in walkable areas to be more sustainable, offer improved standards of living and build community in less car-dependent neighborhoods.

Even with record-breaking heat, locals want to have the ability to walk to attractions in their communities. Still, barriers such as seas of parking lots and lack of commercial investments have left many otherwise viable communities underdeveloped.

A factor in Downtown Phoenix’s push for walkability is Arizona State University’s downtown campus, which recorded more than 11,000 students enrolled in the fall 2022 semester, according to the university’s website.
