The inaugural Rib Fest Throwdown, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, at Mark Coronado Park, 15850 N. Bullard Ave., Surprise, has been canceled.
“Due to the CDC’s recommendations on limiting large events or mass gatherings for the next eight weeks due to the potential spread of COVID-19 we have made the decision to postpone the KNIX BBQ and Beer Festival originally scheduled for March 28 and the Rib Fest Throwdown scheduled for April 25 & 26,” HDE Agency creative director Landon Evans stated in a March 18 email. “We are working with city officials to reschedule these near future and look forward to connecting with the community again soon.”
All ticket purchases remain valid and will be applied to the rescheduled event, he added. Vendor fees will also be applied to the rescheduled event.
When rescheduled, the Rib Fest Throwdown – the battle of Texas versus Kansas City barbecue – will highlight Surprise’s spring training history with the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers, making it the perfect place to host this showdown.
The family-friendly, two-day event will feature activities, including a kid’s zone, eating competitions, “battle of the bands” with rotating schedule of local and national groups, flair performers and more.
