Tempe launches Hometown For All initiative

Mayor Woods, City Council spearhead fair housing effort

Although a long time in the making, the municipality of Tempe eyes lasting strides in the pursuit of ensuring affordable housing is a reality for those who call the city home.

Mayor of Tempe, Corey Woods, says it is a proverbial fight to keep affordable housing accessible in the city as economic realities of development interests, housing, and resident desires collide.

“We estimate that for us to fulfill our affordable housing needs in Tempe we need about 11,000 more units by the year 2040 for us to really keep pace,” he said. “We believe that for us to do that we need to generate $2 million a year to make this happen and we believe we can make that happen.”
