OPINION — Ample evidence shows Congress is impotent. The autocratic president enabled by the Supreme Court has assumed total control of our democratic republic.
Both Republicans and Democrats in Congress need a swift spinal tap. Not a medical procedure, but getting a backbone, doing what is right by the rule of law in concert with our founding documents. Fulfilling the oath to their constituents irrespective of political party or monetary standing. Quit idolizing and kowtowing to the president.
The Bible and sound architecture tell us to build on solid ground. A solid foundation becomes the base of a pillar of strength upon which to build, to stand the test of time and challenge. The keel of a ship, or towers of a building secure the backbone (spine) of that which has been built on the foundation. The spine is the primary support structure, and to be spineless is to be impotent and weak.
Elected officials need to exhibit a strong spine, act with courage and honesty, have moral and ethical conviction, and uphold the oath of office. Loyalty to country must always trump loyalty to a party or a person.
Elected officials should also be compassionate, humane, and love all more than self. Service to others does not mean “me first.”
Our house is leaning, and unless elected officials honor their oath, stand strong in the face of threats and worry less about their next election, all will have much more to worry about. An autocrat, his enablers and the wealthy 1% will have altered the landscape of America forever. We the 99% deserve better.
The spinal tap needed in is a proverbial swift kick to the backside of every elected official to cause a wake-up to the realization that our government and independence are crumbling. Being spineless is destroying the constitutional framework of the USA.
