Impairment suspected in fatal Phoenix crash

A 51-year-old died Friday afternoon after his vehicle crashed into a barrier wall near Orangewood Avenue and the northbound Black Canyon Highway access road, police said.

Preliminary information indicates that Eric Koistinen was traveling west on Orangewood Avenue when it collided about 1:45 p.m. Oct. 23 with the wall on the west side of the access road, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

Police said they believe impairment was a factor as they continue to investigate.
