A woman died and a man is in jail following a crash Wednesday involving a bus, Phoenix police said.

The collision occurred about 9:45 a.m. July 2 near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road. Officers who responded found Emily Analla, 29, with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A woman on the bus suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car, 23-year-old Xavier Manuel, was taken to a hospital with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening. The subsequent investigation revealed that Manuel showed signs of impairment, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

Detectives took over the investigation and said preliminary information indicates the bus was stopped at the bus stop west of 35th Avenue on Thomas Road. The car involved was heading west on Thomas Road when it struck the rear of the stopped bus.

Manuel was treated at the hospital and released from medical care and then arrested and booked into jail on one count of manslaughter.  Additional charging decisions will be made once toxicology results and the accident reconstruction process become available, police said.
