Immigrants significantly less likely to commit crimes than native-born Americans

OPINION — The following was read at the Wednesday, Dec. 10 meeting of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors:
Mr. Chairman,
This past week Pinal County Attorney Miller took center stage in establishing a new low in pushing his despicable race-based law enforcement.
To objective observers, it underscores Miller’s unique MAGA loyalty, An effort to detract from the unfolding disclosures that confirm depraved Donald Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking network. How else explain the absence of Pinal County data tying Hispanic immigrants to domestic violence, human trafficking, drug trafficking and crimes against children.
No data offered because no such immigrant-caused detailed criminal data exists.
Arizona law enforcement reports do not produce data on crime committed by immigrants.
However, there is an exceptionally credible series of reports by Cato Institute, a libertarian research center that has published numerous studies which consistently find that immigrants — both legal and illegal — are significantly less likely to commit crimes or be incarcerated than native-born Americans. Their research concludes that immigration generally has a beneficial effect on public safety by lowering overall crime rates.
While Pinal County Attorney Miller did not cite legal authority nor data to justify his 287(g) pursuit of immigrants, he failed to point out that his own office has produced credible data on crime statistics for Pinal County. A report that covers 17,000 criminal cases. Of those cases, 53.32% of the criminal defendants were White and 26.78% Hispanic, while 12.42% were African American.
Thus, negating his baseless focus on Hispanic immigrants.
Clearly Pinal County public safety has faced a greater threat by the 53.32% white criminal perpetrators than the minority reflected in the Pinal County Attorney Office’s uncited report.
Meantime, the county attorney and county sheriff are left to spend over $83 million, the largest proportion of our taxpayer-funded county budget, pursuing landscapers, taco shop owners, construction workers, janitors, farmworkers — any brown-skinned person speaking Spanish, or wearing day laborers clothing.
Please exercise your authority and jurisdiction.
