Perhaps no team could take it as literally as the 2021 Imagine Prep varsity squad. The 2020 Storm team qualified for the Canyon Athletic Association Division II finals only to see the Surprise-based charter school cancel the game because of a high case load in Surprise — not in the school or on the team.
Coach Kip Pollay said he knew this team would be good, and motivated by the missed opportunity. The Storm proved him right by shutting out their first four opponents, but the final regular game against Heritage Academy-Mesa, a 52-12 win, made the veteran coach certain this could be a title team.
