Illegal dumping stays at Surprise’s western edge

Trash still an issue north of 219th Avenue

Surprise is closer to crafting a property maintenance ordinance designed to make code enforcement procedures clearer for residents owning rural properties, particularly off 219th Avenue north of the Sun Valley Parkway.

City officials stated this ordinance is scheduled to be heard during the Surprise City Council work session starting at 4 p.m. Feb. 15.

However, the other major concern of residents near the city’s western boundary — illegal dumping of furniture and other trash in the desert — shows no signs of resolution. The worst area is less than a mile east of 219th Avenue alongside the dirt of Deer Valley Road.
