I oppose renaming Loop 202 for Charlie Kirk — here’s why

OPINION — Renaming the Loop 202 in Charlie Kirk's honor is not appropriate, in my opinion.

Kirk should not be remembered in a country that is so politically and religiously divided as it is today. Kirk was not an elected official or a renowned figure before his untimely violent death.

It would be more appropriate to honor the lifelong accomplishments of the Rev. Jesse Jackson than the short-term speaking engagements of Charlie Kirk by naming a highway in his honor.
