I-17 improvement project progressing

Crews are making “significant progress” along the Interstate 17 corridor where workers are moving large boulders and rocks to make way for new lanes, according to Laura Douglas, an ADOT spokeswoman.

The $522 million project, along a 23-mile stretch of the route north of Phoenix, will widen northbound and southbound lanes and add additional lanes to improve capacity and reduce congestion from Anthem Way north to the Sunset Point Rest Area.

Project construction is expected to last until 2025.
