Hundreds of plants salvaged, making way for Happy Valley Road expansion

Volunteers recently salvaged hundreds of plants at the foot of Ludden Mountain that will be displaced with the widening of Happy Valley Road.

The Phoenix Street Transportation Department is in the process of widening Happy Valley Road from 35th to 67th avenues. Toward the western edge of that boundary is about three quarters of a mile that will cut into the preserve at Ludden Mountain, northwest of Happy Valley Road and 55th Avenue.

Plants were recently salvaged from both the yellow and red rectangles on this map. The yellow rectangle indicates an area where construction has already begun for the widening of Happy Valley Road near Ludden Mountain. The red rectangle reaches about 100 feet into the preserve from the street.
