Hundreds in Tempe lose power after fire damages APS lines

A fire Monday morning in north Tempe damaged power lines and cut electricity, affecting hundreds of people living in the area, city officials said.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. Aug. 7 in an alley near the intersection of Scottsdale and Curry roads.

The cause of the fire was determined to be intentional, and a suspect is in custody, officials said.

Hundreds in Tempe lose power after fire damages APS lines

A fire Monday morning in north Tempe damaged power lines and cut electricity, affecting hundreds of people living in the area, city officials said.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. Aug. 7 in an alley near the intersection of Scottsdale and Curry roads.

The cause of the fire was determined to be intentional, and a suspect is in custody, officials said.

No injuries were reported, and no buildings damaged by the fire that affected about 400 residents in the area from Scottsdale Road to 76th Street and Weber Drive to Curry Road. APS was expected to have power restored by 10 p.m. Aug. 7, according to the city.

Meantime, the North Tempe Multigeneration Center, 1555 N. Bridalwreath St., remained open for those in the neighborhood of the outage.

The City of Tempe CARE 7, community health and human services, neighborhood services, police and emergency management monitored the area throughout the day to provide assistance, officials said.
