Human skeletal remains found in Buckeye

Likely not those of missing geologist

BUCKEYE — An off-roading effort led to the discover of human skeletal remains in Buckeye late last week.

Buckeye Police were alerted of the find near Johnson Road and Southern Avenue, on Jan. 7, by Penny Buffington, who was off-roading in a remote area when she discovered a skull and other bones.

Buckeye Police released a statement that a skull and other bones were found and the remains have been sent to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. The department is asking the public to avoid the area while the scene is processed.
