Competitors came from across Arizona to vie for a spot on the 2023 Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo royalty court. Cities and towns represented included Tucson, Young, Snowflake, Mesa and Apache Junction.
Tyra Hughes, 25, of Mesa, was selected as the 2023 Lost Dutchman Days rodeo queen Jan. 7 during a day-long pageant competition that included horsemanship events at the Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds, 1590 E. Lost Dutchman Blvd.
“I’m just happy to do another year with Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo because it’s such a great organization,” she said. “My favorite part about rodeo is — well I love all of it, but I think my favorite event would be saddle bronc. It takes a lot of body control and just talent to be able to stay on a bronc like that.”
