HUD gives $35.7 million to combat Valley homelessness

Not enough beds and the trials and tribulations of the pandemic have led to a larger Phoenix-area homeless population, according to Katie Gentry, human services planner at Maricopa Association of Governments.

On March 14, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the Maricopa County area will receive $35.7 million to help nonprofits with services and housing of the Valley’s homeless.

Officials said those living in unsheltered situations climbed by 35% in Maricopa County since 2020.
