How we can give hope to Valley families affected by Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

OPINION — The new year is an opportunity to reset, rebuild and work toward goals that can help us become the best versions of ourselves.

Popular resolutions revolve around diet and exercise, finances or relationships. However, for some Arizona mothers, a fresh start means something much deeper: the opportunity to heal, to parent and to keep their baby safe. 

Every 15 minutes a baby in the U.S. is born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome — NAS — which affects newborns exposed to opioids in the womb. It requires a complex and painful detox process in the days right after birth.
