How history links Phoenix ballpark to old Polo Grounds in New York

Home today to ASU, baseball history shines alive and well at Phoenix Municipal Stadium

Not too long ago there was talk of making a new modification at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The ballpark at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Priest Drive, in the shadows of the massive red sandstone buttes of Papago Park, has hosted baseball for more than 60 years. First for generations of spring training, and since 2015 as home for the Arizona State University team.

Technology necessitated placing cellphone antennas on one of the stadium’s 10 light towers. Talk even turned to maybe replacing the light tower altogether in order to accommodate the latest techno-progress in the name of electronic convenience.
